    Outdoor Classroom at Brookwood Elementary

In cooperation with The Heritage Conservancy and a grant from Foundations Community Partnership, BC Cares completed the installation of an outdoor classroom space at Brookwood Elementary. This space provides STEAM curriculum enhancement, along with ongoing extracurricular opportunities for school staff and families. The ES students utilize the garden in their curriculum as well, especially enjoying being there for brain breaks! The garden was cared for through this past summer by new volunteer families each week! When students returned this past Fall, the garden was filled with many native pollinators as well as pumpkins and sunflowers planted by the students in May as part of a ribbon cutting ceremony! They have a resident praying mantis family, and have found several Monarch caterpillars! In cooperation with their STEAM teacher, Mr. Ryan Bowen, BC Cares is now working to raise funds to expand the garden with more beds and a small circular space within the garden that can comfortably host any size classroom for outdoor learning sessions. Enjoy the progress pictures below!
